Fiasp – a step in the right direction!

I have now been using Fiasp for a few weeks so I thought it might be time to have a little look at how it’s been going.  I jumped on the bandwagon after seeing multiple ppl posting about it on good old Instagram.  I was intrigued by the claims that it works faster than Novorapid as I was getting a little frustrated by Novorapid and it’s sluggish nature. I’m not known for my patience and having to wait to eat after blousing was making me angry!

So I ordered this new magic insulin and filled up my pump with excitement before going about my usual routine.  Now, it wasn’t necessarily the absolute magic formula I was somehow expecting HOWEVER it is most definitely a step in the right direction.  See below the points I have noticed…

1. It most definitely does work faster than novorapid.  I watched the arrow change on my dexcom from straight to downwards in less than 5 minutes of bolussing.

2. My insulin requirements seem to have decreased.  I spent the first few days on the more hypo side of things and subsequently have reduced my basal rate.  This is an unexpected win as I hadn’t heard anyone else make any claims of this.

3. I feel like my body is more responsive to Fiasp.  This may well be complete rubbish and purely psychological however, I just feel like it is working a lot more effectively.  I used to have days where I was administering Novorapid like it was water and it seemed to be having no discernible affect on my sugars.  So far I haven’t noticed this with Fiasp.

So…it’s still early days but so far so good I would say!  As my consultant so very eloquently put when I saw her last week, it’s good but it’s no miracle, just a step in the right direction.  I’m happy with that, as long as we are moving forward all is goooood!

  1. I’m using Fiasp right now in pen form for meals, not ready for my pump switch yet! But I agree, it works much faster and prevents such high spikes. I’ve been T1 for nearly 11 years and this is probably the best advancement yet in the last 10 years, in my opinion.
